Aquadyne Bead Filters

The Worlds First Perfect Bead Filtration Systems

Three Stages of Filtration

The filter is of key importance in keeping your Koi pond water crystal-clear and free of chemical pollutants.  Our line of filters are designed to meet a wide range of needs, for both large and small ponds.  Our line of filters provide one or more of three types of Pond Filters and filtration are:

  • Biological Filtration
  • Mechanical Filtration
  • Chemical Filtration

Mechanical Filtration:  Refers to the physical removal of debris from water by materials that trap large and small particles.  Polyester Pre-Filter Pads last longer and filter better that other pre-filtration products, even after several cleanings.

Chemical Filtration:   Removes pesticides, colors, odors, organic waste, excess nutrients and other harmful chemicals from your pond.  Coconut Shell carbon, Zeolite are examples of products to be used in your filter for chemical filtration.

Biological Filtration:  This is where your pond filter provides a place for beneficial bacteria to grow on special media.  These bacteria remove harmful pollutants from pond water.  Known as the "Biological Filter" these beneficial bacteria convert poisonous compounds such as ammonia and nitrite, into less toxic nitrate.  The end by-product, nitrate, is used as a food source by aquatic plants.  This continuous process is called the nitrogen cycle.

Aquadyne .60-B Pressurized Filter - Ponds up to 1800 gallons

The model .60-B was developed at the request of many who needed a powerhouse filter in a small package that would perform like our other larger filters with blowers, in a slightly smaller footprint. This filter works excellently with most any 1200 gph external or submersible pump. If you intend to use a submersible pump, please use the order number .60-B-S for a submersible riser column.

Aquadyne 1.1 Pressurized Filter - Ponds up to 2400 gallons

Aquadyne 1.1 Pressurized Filter - Ponds up to 2400 gallons

While the Model 1.1 is an excellent choice for a bead filtration system within a given price range, the Model 1.1-B far exceeds the performance of the standard 1.1 at a slightly higher initial cost. Carefully compare both filters performance data. The good news is that after April 1st, 2001 we will fit the Standard 1.1 with the necessary bulkheads for a later simple backyard conversion to the Model 1.1-B. So if your budget can't go the 1.1-B at first. You can perform the conversion yourself with a screwdriver and some PVC cement. We are making this improvement to better accommodate our customers with great flexibility in upgrading to a Dynamax blower system.

Aquadyne 2.2 Pressurized Filter - Ponds up to 5000 gallons

Again, as with the Model 1.1, The Model 2.2 is an excellent choice for a bead filtration system within a given price range for larger ponds. The Model 2.2-B by far exceeds the performance of the standard 2.2 at a slightly higher initial cost at the benefit of turbo-charging the efficiency of your filter. Carefully compare both filters performance data. Here again, we now fit the Standard 2.2 also with the necessary bulkheads for a later simple backyard conversion to the Model 2.2-B. The standard 2.2 can also be converted to a 2.2-B yourself with no special tools. If you are relatively sure that you will likely convert your filter to a Dynamax system at a later date, we advise that you not wait and purchase the appropriate model initially. By the time you decide to convert, you could have had it running from day one with no concern of conversion.

Model 2.2BHE - Includes a 2" High efficiency Control Head with 2" plumbing in and out. (Same head and column as used in the Model 4.4, just 4 inches shorter in length.) We have been building this column at the request of several of our dealers. If you must have 2 inches in and out of your control head this is the way to get it. However, considering the fact that the maximum recommended filtration rate is 4000 gph, you will only accomplish a friction loss improvement of about 15 to 20% by using the 2" control head and column. If you feel that this friction loss improvement is beneficial to you, buy it. If you are using your 2.2B filter in a typical installation and not trying to tweak every last gph out of your pump, save your money and buy the standard 2.2B model. Bearing in mind that the standard 2.2 and 2.2B control head and column will pass 3000 gph at less than 1 psi at the filter discharge port height, which is most exceptional by anyone's standards.

The Model 8.8-C is definately the Mac Daddy of all bead filters in its price range. Boasting worry free maintenance on ponds up to 28,000 gallons. Our latest proving ground for high fish load concentrations on the Model 8.8 is a commercial fishery that is running 600 pounds of fish in a single living, growing system with generous feeding habits, yet they claim a most excellent water quality with regard to waste management. At such a heavy load, their practice is to take a few minutes and backwash the system every day to eliminate the mechanical waste from the heavy feeding that goes on in the commercial facility. In the average large pond installation, the sheer volume of the Model 8.8 can bless you with only having to backwash as little as once every 3 weeks. These farmers joke that you really can clean the filter with a cup of coffee in your hand.
